Merriman Soccer

The Merriman High Performance Soccer Clinics offer challenging but fun programs for players of all ages and skill levels, from beginner to elite. In all clinics, players will be grouped according to age and ability. Merriman Soccer’s main goal is to help players’ with basic and advanced skill development while building on enjoyment and passion for the game. Players will be challenged and expected to play at their highest level. All clinics are designed to have players working with a ball as much as possible.

Be prepared to work hard. Be prepared to learn amazing skills. Be prepared to have lots of fun.

Coaches

 

Bill Merriman

has enjoyed 30 years of coaching experience with University Mens, Mid-Isle Youth and Ladies Premier League teams, Metro & Selects All-star, BC Summer Games, Inter-Provincial League and European touring teams. Bill has received much recognition for his coaching over the years, including NDYSA Coach of the Year and BCCAA Coach of the year. But, nothing has been as meaningful as the success of players he has coached. Many of Bill’s former players are on university, provincial and national team programs. Bill has built strong relationships with many recognized coaching associates from around the world, who welcome the opportunity to be involved in Merriman Soccer coaching programs. 

 

James Merriman

is currently the Assistant coach at Vancouver Island University Men’s Soccer team (2009 Conference Champs). He is coaching within the Woodlands High School soccer Academy, Nanaimo District Development Centre and Merriman’s Soccer Academy. James grew up in Nanaimo, BC, playing in the Metro Leagues, Provincial Programs, and National Youth Programs. He went on to the University of Denver where he played 4 seasons while receiving his BS Business Administration Degree. He played one season for the Colorado Rapid Reserves of the PDL, and one season for the Colorado Lightning of the Professional Indoor Soccer League while coaching Youth teams at Colorado Storm Soccer Club. James has also trained in Europe with clubs such as; Coventry City, Aberdeen Football Club, Dundee United, St. Johnstone FC and SV Wihlelmshaven. He hopes to use the knowledge he has collected from playing and coaching at different levels internationally to improve the skills and focus of the players on Vancouver Island through Merriman Soccer.

 

Tyler Merriman

has just completed a successful season playing for the Vancouver Island University soccer team finishing 1st as the 2009 BCCAA League Champs and he is currently playing on the Nanaimo United Men's Div One team. Tyler is currently coaching within the Merriman Soccer Programs and has coached youth for several years in training sessions and camps for VIU, Pacific Sport , Mid Isle Club and Merriman Soccer. Tyler played for 2 years on the BC Provincial team as well as the Y-League team, played 4 years on the U.V.I. Metro team and he has played in several international tournaments including Germany, Holland, California, Seattle. Tyler enjoys helping players to develop the skills and desire to improve their game.



 

Chris Merriman

is currently the head coach at Nanaimo's Woodlands Soccer Academy. He is coaching within the Nanaimo District Development Centre and Merriman's Soccer Academy. Chris is currently playing on Nanaimo United Men's Division one as well as the Victoria Highlanders FC. He has played four years on the BC Provincial teams as well as four years in the Canadian National Training Centre, as well as numerous years with the U.V.I Metro team. Soccer has taken Chris to England, Mexico and the United States numerous times as well as Ireland and Czech Republic. Chris's goals are to keep pursuing soccer at the highest level but enjoys coaching the youth in his offseason to develop players within the community to reach the next level.
